Welcome dinner at the Centre for Global Dialogue (Villa dining room)
The Geneva Association's inaugural Socio-economic Resilience Conference, hosted by the Swiss Re Institute, took place at Swiss Re's Centre for Global Dialogue (CGD) in Rüschlikon, Zurich, Switzerland on 30 November–1 December 2022.
Conference overview
As providers of risk protection, facilitators of risk prevention and long-term investors, insurers significantly enhance the capabilities of individuals, households and businesses to withstand financial shocks and bounce back. On this premise, The Geneva Association runs a dedicated research work stream, ‘Socio-economic Resilience’ (SER), which hosted its first-ever international stakeholder event.
Drawing from the Geneva Association report, The Role of Insurance in Promoting Social Sustainability, the conference explored how insurers can maximise their inherent social utility through their core business operations, avoid and address potentially negative impacts (‘do no harm’), and identify additional contributions to socio-economic resilience that are commercially viable. It also examined specific roles for the public and private sectors in promoting socio-economic resilience.
Programme (times in CET)
The conference was moderated by Kai-Uwe Schanz, Deputy Managing Director, The Geneva Association.
