The global protection gap is one of the most pressing issues facing the insurance industry. It goes far beyond missed commercial opportunities. The more threatening aspect is a severe lack of societal resilience in many developing and emerging countries, where insurers hardly play any role when it comes to mitigating the impacts of natural disasters or pandemics, for example. In this report The Geneva Association has analysed the potential contribution of digital and mobile technologies to narrowing protection gaps in both mature and developing insurance markets by enhancing the awareness, affordability and attractiveness of insurance products and solutions. The findings of the report were complemented and validated through 23 expert and executive interviews.
